Red Bud Isle is an off-leash dog park on a small Town Lake island, just below Tom Miller Dam in Austin, Texas. There are numerous open play areas, lots of shade and plenty of paths to the water where dogs can access the lake to swim. Strolls through the woods are common, along with dogs running, people kayaking and fishing. Red Bud Isle is located at 3401 Redbud Trail and is a park within the City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department. Google Earth view of Red Bud Isle

Red Bud Isle Workdays occur on a somewhat regular basis and are dog and kid friendly events! Upcoming Volunteer Workday at Red Bud Isle Austin Parks Foundation It’s My Park! Day Saturday, March 6th 9:00 AM-12:00 PM
Red Bud Isle Dog Play Area Mulching All of the rain and heavy use of the dog park play areas over the past year have taken a toll on the surfaces at the park. Looking for high energy volunteers of all ages to help us spread a mountain of mulch in the main play areas. We've done this event for the past 3 years at Red Bud Isle and it really helps maintain the play areas for the dogs, eliminating the dust, mud, and various holes. If you can bring a wheelbarrow and/or pitchforks, that would be helpful. This is a dog and kid friendly event. Note that there is poison ivy at the park, but most of our work will be done in the open play areas so this shouldn't be a major factor. Volunteers can sign up on the APF website: http://austinparks.org/ Friends of Red Bud Isle
Feb 2010 Update: The January 28th Red Bud Isle workday went very well! Thanks go out to the volunteers and the PARD Urban Forest Manager who helped trim up the trees in the large dog play area, freed trees of vines, cleaned up dead brush, cut back one section of invasive giant cane and removed of a handful of seeding ligustrum.
Congratulations! A large Bald Cypress tree at Red Bud Isle won the City of Austin 2009 Large Tree of the Year Award! The cypress tree with it's new plaque is located near the point of the island, near the open play area there. The plaque was placed on one of the big boulders in front of the tree. The tree is beautiful and very deserving of the this award. It was nominated by a Friends of Red Bud Isle member. We continue our concentrated effort to clear up the dog waste in the park. Volunteers pick up waste daily. Please, please, please - be good park stewards and clean up after your pet.

A typical workday at Red Bud Isle:
Poop Patrol Finds New Homes for Wayward Poops
Despite the oppressive heat, Friends of Red Bud poop patrol had a
good showing and completed their monthly sweep of the park in just
under an hour. There were plenty of "thanks" passed along from other
park users as we repeatedly demonstrated proper park poop scooping
etiquette. The team estimated approximately 50 pounds of displaced
poops in total, which was about the same as our last outing.
Overall,
the park looked pretty good from this perspective, and was far
better
off upon our departure.
Special thanks to Andrew, Kate, John, Janet, Marsha, and Carol for
their enthusiastic support of June Poop Patrol!

This is a casual social to meet Friends of Red Bud Isle while addressing the ongoing concern of keeping this dog park cleaned up. Stop by, say hello and discuss ideas.
To all the park visitors and Friends of Red Bud Isle who pick up poop on a regular basis and that clean up after their dog or others dogs - We Thank You!
